One of the fun variations on the traditional blackjack game is the game of Hi Lo. Players are able to make quick bets on the side of their blackjack game, attempting to predict whether the next card that is flipped over will be higher or lower than the one they just received.

Addition to the Basic Game

When playing blackjack, most players are already making an internal prediction of whether the next card will be higher or lower than the card they already have. If the player is showing a ten or a face card, they have a good chance that the next card will be lower. If the player shows a two or three, then it's almost certain that the next card will be higher. By adding this extra bet on the subsequent card, players can increase their winnings without increasing the workload of the basic game.

Evaluating the Odds

Players of blackjack are already calculating the odds in their head about what the next card will be. If there is a good chance they will go best, they will attempt to stand, but if the next card is likely to be small and give them an added boost to 21, they will usually hit. By playing Hi Lo blackjack, players are simply using the exact same odds of blackjack in a new way. If players have a tenuous grasp on the odds of blackjack already, then adding the Hi Lo dimension will only hurt them.
